Information on computing for Stat 301, section A

We will use JMP version 12 Pro for computing. JMP is available in the Snedecor computer labs and in most (perhaps all) computer labs around campus. You can also install your own copy on a personal desktop or laptop. The ISU license is valid until 30 June 2017 and renewable if you are still associated with the university.

You can download JMP 12 Pro for either Windows or Mac by going to http://www.stat.iastate.edu/statistical-software-jmp/. There are instructions in a Word document available from the JMP installation link.
The short version of the instructions is to click on the Installation for Windows and Mac Users link, enter your ISU netid and password, click on the JMP Pro folder icon, the 12.0 icon, then the icon for your operating system (MAC or Windows), then either the JMP12packaged mac.zip file (MAC) or JMP12Pro exe file (Windows).
Once the file is downloaded to your desktop follow the instructions here to install the program. The instructions are old and refer to JMP 10 and 11. JMP 12 is identical.

If you have problems installing JMP on a laptop, please take your laptop to the Stat IT folks in 2123 Snedecor for help.

Lab periods will focus on how to use JMP and how to understand the results.

If you want to use some other software, e.g., R, SAS, or SPSS, please talk to one of us first. This is not out of the question but it may not be easy. We will provide help as we can. If you do use other software, you will be responsible for running the lab examples to verify that you get the same results. The usual distribution of EXCEL is not sufficient for this class.
